The 2018 event was one not to have been missed and 2019 will contain even more insight into this highly topical conference as temperature controlled logistics grows in importance.
Some of the key takeaways from the 2018 event included the opening keynote from the US Customs and Border Protection. Mary Zhang, National Account Manager & Santos Perez, Supervisory Import Specialist delivered a presentation focusing on their Centers of Excellence and Expertise (CEE). They talked about what the goals of the Centers were as well as assessing regulatory trade Authorities. It was an incredibly insightful presentation that paved the way for the rest of the conference.
Dave Malenfant, Executive Vice-President, at BSMA (Biotech Supply Management Alliance) was a fantastic chair over the course of the two days, ensuring speakers ran to time but also, more importantly, engaging with them and offering thought provoking critique in between the talks. Dave also presented an excellent talk on the future of temperature controlled logistics. Although there are numerous challenges the industry is looking to solve, all of which were discussed in great depth at the conference, Dave was also looking into the future including assessing the risks around ecommerce thinking when delivering temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products and finding ways to mitigate them. As well as creating a more fluid supply chain with more ownership over the logistics. Other technology that was talked about included Blockchain and the role that will have for temperature controlled logistics in the future.
