Bettina Lorz is a Senior Expert in the European Commission Directorate General for the Environment, working in the Waste Management and Secondary Materials Unit. Since 2015, she coordinates the ‘waste stream sector’, including policies on packaging and packaging waste, (single use) plastics, waste from electrical and electronic equipment and related substance restrictions, batteries. Bettina also advises on international matters related to circular economy and waste management. From 2010 to 2014, she was seconded to the EU Delegation in Nairobi, as the EU Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and UN-Habitat.
A lawyer by training and European Commission official since 1990, Bettina has worked in a number of central assignments notably in the Environment Directorate General, including on policy strategies (Environmental Action Programme, Sustainable Consumption and Production Action Plan). She has extensive experience of EU environmental, consumer and product policy, and worked on a large spectrum of EU and global environmental policies and issues.
