Highlights from Government Computing 2017

2017 saw delegates gather from across the UK to explore the latest technological advances being utilised in the public sector. With a focus on scalable, proven process and technology, the event featured presentations from some of the leading policy makers and practitioners from across local and central government and gave attendees the opportunity to discover new innovative ways of working which have brought about improvements in the design and delivery of public services. The event took place in the midst of an election battle and with Brexit casting a shadow on all discussion the show served to help attendees define their digital priorities as we prepare to enter a post-Brexit environment.

Highlights included:

Phil Stradling from the Interoperability Team at NHS England joined us to talk about the digital roadmap in the NHS to support innovation. Phil discussed how a digital blue print can support transformation across the organisations and how the workforce can be supported to deliver digital agendas.

John Jackson from London Grid for Learning took part in an on-stage interview focusing on collaborative procurement and how pooling budgets can bring cost benefits to all those involved. He touched on the challenges in aligning needs for joint procurement models and the development of agile procurement.

The day finished with a crowd-sourced panel debate; we polled the audience on the hot topics they wanted to see our expert panel discuss and unsurprisingly Brexit made its way on to the agenda. Our panel debated how government can digitally prepare for Brexit and what it will mean for both central and local government. We explored how the public sector can embrace new technology trends in an environment of ever growing budget cuts and how the sector can attract the best talent and growing the next generation of CIO.
