Maintaining Ethical use of AI to better our Financial System

Technology has delivered numerous benefits to society, however, its shadowing threats can be damaging. Automobiles have reduced travel time, but it also creates crashes. As such, many questions are being asked regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly unethical misuse.

Facebook’s use of AI was brought to public attention recently. The tech giant utilised AI technologies to predict user behaviour, and sold the subsequent data to advertisers. With financial and personal data being incredibly valuable, could we see something similar occur in the world of finance?

As AI continues its entry into financial services, how can we ensure ethical use?

With AI’s functionality determined by complex algorithms set by its developers, already this poses huge bias as these rules can be manipulated by its creator(s). Furthermore, the results are derived from data which it’s given, meaning tailored data can generate a desirable outcome.

Furthermore, if these machines are approving mortgages by analysing financial data, how do we know these decisions are fair and reasonable? Can AI be accountable for its actions?

At this year’s conference, we have invited Janet Adams, the Head of AI from TSB Bank, to host a panel discussion on ‘Ethical AI in Finance’. Take a look at the key discussions points below:

·         How can we ensure that AI is used to support people and create a better financial system?

·         What are the potential use cases of AI across financial services for social good?

·         Could the use of AI in finance have damaging outcomes for customers and citizens?

·         What steps can we take to ensure accountability in AI projects?

Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to join your peers in London to collaboratively explore AI in financial services. See you in London!
