Latvenergo utility speaks about combined heat and power

This year for the first time, ExPPERTS is hosting a presenter from the Latvian company Latvenergo. Anita Kvesko will present the amazing environmental policy of this utility operator whose 72% of the electricity output is produced by renewable energy and the 28% left by combined heat and power.

A particular attention will be focused on the benefit of the CCGT to improve the efficiency of a power plant, reducing in the same time the emissions. Furthermore, Latvenergo will present the benefit of shifting to natural gas instead of coal for a more environmental-friendly source of energy.

In this context of stricter regulations on emission, power plants face a dilemma: they have to choose between retrofitting their equipment, investing in technologies to reduce emissions, or shift to cleaner sources of energy, and improving the efficiency of their power plants. Such experiences given by Latvernego can help our attendees to understand better the benefits, the process, and the challenges of such policy.
