Small Hydro Latin America 2016 highlights
The agenda for 2016 contained more case studies, in depth discussions and exciting technology than in previous years. We were pleased to welcome back Jorge Alberto Valencia Marin from UPME who gave an insight into the current state of regulations. A panel discussion was also held that focused on the future of small hydro in Latin America considering regulations and the increasing competition from alternative renewable resources.
We had three very exciting case studies this year – one looking into working collaboratively with local communities in Chile from RP-Global. Another revealed what happened at a Proelectrica plant when a terrorist attack took place and highlighted their lessons learnt. HMV Ingenieros joined us again to give a case study of their tunnel collapse in one of their small hydro plants.
The technology roundtables took place at the end of day 2 and offered delegates an opportunity to hold in depth discussions in a small focus group. Similarly the country specific roundtables at the beginning of day two allowed delegates to dig deep into specific regions.
We also held a panel discussion this year that looked into what investors look for in projects when decision making. Followed by a presentation that focused on small hydro projects in Bolivia; past, present and future.
Countries included on the agenda – Bolivia, Colombia, Panama, Chile and Peru – the 2016 agenda focused on the challenges in the entire region.
We will be putting together the agenda soon so please get in touch if you would like to be involved.
