In 1983 Ruud started at NS Dutch Railways, the first years as a mechanic, then as an instructor and since 1992 as an engineer, later senior engineer at NS Train Modernization (NS TM). As an engineer / sr engineer, Ruud has been involved in damage repair, revision and modernization of trainsets and addressing technical problems during overhaul and modernization. His fields of expertise mainly concern the exterior parts of trains, which also include the application of foil. As a senior engineer, he is responsible for the overhaul and modernization designs within his field of expertise, so they meet customer as well as regulatory requirements. As the exterior foil is part of the total exterior preservation system, he is involved with the current fire safety requirements for exterior preservation systems.
