The Rise of Veganism

In the past, veganism wasn’t a mainstream thing. Fast forward to 2017 and vegans are everywhere. The rapid rise of veganism in the past decade has had a huge impact on the dairy market and there are a few factors to blame.

Social media

Approximately 10 years ago, the biggest social network was born. Since then, many other have followed, all with their unique selling point, fulfilling different needs which the younger generation crave. Millennial are constantly glued to their phones, whether it is Facebook or Instagram, news and information can travel instantly from one side of the globe to the others. A short informative video on animal cruelty can reach millions within minutes.

Health benefits

From increased energy levels to having younger looking skin, these are just some of the benefits which you reap from a vegan diet. Although your intake of certain nutrients found in meat will decrease, most of it can be found in other vegan alternatives. Vegan diets have proven to be low in saturated fats, high in fibre and packed with antioxidants, and the ultimate gain for most people is the sheer weight loss which comes with it. As science continues to educate the population, this trend is likely to continue.

The Environment & the animals

Not many people know this, but animal agriculture is actually the leading cause of CO2 emissions and deforestation. Think about it this way, the amount of land, food and water required, as well as the transportation and machinery which are used to create the end product are countless. As previously mentioned, science has explored the health benefits, but it has also discovered global warming and emotions in animals, and for many this is the reason to turn vegan.
