Three Highlights from 2017 event

The 4th Annual Clinical Operations in Oncology Trials West Coast was jam-packed with strategies on patient recruitment and retention, outsourcing and site management. Here are three highlights from the 2017 program (Please note it was almost impossible to highlight just a few from the many great presentations from our 2017 speakers!):

  1. The future of clinical trials: Implementing mobile technology to enhance patient convenience and optimize trial operations by Francis Kendall at Roche: We all are interested in developing patient friendly clinical trials, and the mobile technology seems to suggest the way forward. Francis shared some of his honest experiences at Roche to implement mobile technology to optimize clinical trials. From his experience, we could learn the possibilities and potentials of mobile technology in oncology trials and some of the concerns that we should consider when implementing at local and global level.
  2. Overcoming regulatory challenges unique to the conduct of immuno-oncology trials by Jamie Cross at Forty Seven: From Jamie’s broad experience in the regulatory area, we learned about the challenges with conducting a clinical trial in a newly developing study field – immune-oncology. Especially with his experience of working at FDA added more values for us to understand what the authorities’ expectations and how we can win them over. It was a truly learning session in the area that we all are having difficulties with.
  3. Panel discussion: Can trials be truly patient-centric? Finding a balance between patient convenience and controlling study quality by Deborah Collyar at Patient Advocates In Research, Babi Das Wadhwani at Medivation and Graeme Currie at Dynavax Technologies: In the question of how trials can be truly patient-centric, we gathered trial sponsors and patient group representative together. This developed an interesting discussion to share different perspectives, but definitely meaningful to think of different priorities, values and views.

On the last note, special thanks to the chair, Saira Bates for setting a great conference for all.

We will again come back with up-to-date topics that you want to hear from in 2018!
